Artist Statement
Images and words are the perception through which we all decipher and experience reality by managing our emotions and the meaning of events. My photography pursues the word because the word is image. This connection leads me to explore the mutual influence between photographic language and poetic language. The idea of photographing words inevitably translates into the subconscious becoming a visual experience and in my work this shifts with the consciousness of photographic time where the final rendering is intended to be visual literature, the poetic image.
The choice of shooting in black and white together with the use of long exposure (Creative Blur, Intentional Camera Movement) is a meditated but also instinctive and necessary choice in this area of my research precisely because of the awareness of its semantic meaning. The historical reference is the Movementist Photography of the early 1900s (A.G. Bragaglia) and the photographers M. Giacomelli, G. Bucci, F. Woodmann and A. Titarenko.
This way of shooting helps me to break down, to dissect the mood and the root of people and things around me. This type of photography transfigures the vision of reality, the image is as if dematerialised, fragmented, but at the same time it is recomposed into a new meaning that becomes words. From the oblivion of time I tear fragments of life to represent them, yes in reality, in space, but above all in their possibility of being. All my work is always aimed at studying the turmoil of the human soul in the face of existence and the urgency to fill the black holes we leave behind. The procedure, the constant trend, is above all a recurring attitude, namely the obsession with time.
